Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] insulinoma info

Hi Kim,
There are 3 things that are used to treat insulinoma:
diet, Pediapred, and Proglycem. The first thing is
to check his glucose level to see if the ferret is crashing
from hypoglycemia or from something else. The second
thing is to change him to pediapred (pred) because it works
better than dex at raising the glucose level. The next thing is
to make sure he is on a high quality kitten or ferret food and is
not getting any sugary treats or chromium. If the glucose level
does not improve on pediapred then proglycem can be added, but it is

an expensive product. For more on insulinoma read my article in
Modern Ferret issue #27.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
