Subject: Re: anesthetics/steroids

Yes, propofol is for iv use only.
That and its cost are its 2 negative things.
Steroids inhibit most stages of inflammation.
They decrease the release of arachidonic acid from
membranes, decrease prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Thus they prevent inflammation and the pain that goes with it.
They also produce a feeling of euphoria. They basically make
the ferret feel better and start eating sooner. Dr Bennet from
the University of Florida recommends pediapred for 3-5 days
after an adrenalectomy to help speed up recovery.
