Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Treatment with Modrenal ???

Hi Bettina,
I am familiar with only 1 of the 3 drugs that you mentioned.
Nizoral (ketaconazole) is used sometimes in dogs with
adrenal tumors. It is not considered effective in ferrets with
adrenal gland disease. Sorry without knowing what the other
2 medications are I cannot offer any advice.
Here in the US, medical therapy is the human GnRH agonist
Lupron depot (leuprolide) from Tap Pharmaceutical. It is dosed at
100-500mcg/kg on a monthly basis.
Another option is melatonin. It can also be used at a dose
of 1 mg/kg orally once a day about 8-9 hours after sunrise.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
Dallas Texas.
