Ferrets are definitely susceptible to heartworm. I don't know what
the heartworm problem is like in Nebraska, but here in Florida it's a
constant, and very real, threat.
There first thing you will want to do is go to my website and read
Dr. Kemmerer's article on heartworms in ferrets. Then you might want
to print it out and bring it to your vet. Here's the URL on that

Sorry, I have no recommendations on ferret knowledgeable vets in your
