Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Bloodwork and drawing blood

Normal fasting blood glucose values are 90-125mg/dl. 171 is somewhat high,
but I wonder if that that could be related to his battle during the attempt
to draw blood.

My vet gets blood from the jugular. So far they've been pretty good about
getting it without a lot of problem.

I was wondering what bloodwork is recommended for a 3-4 year old ferret. I
was planning to do a cbc and bg but when we tried to draw the blood my
ferret
threw a fit. He hated the alcohol used to wet down the fur and started
jumping and squirming. The doctor wanted to draw the blood from a jugular
vein but that just was not going to happen. We then tried a back leg and
were able to get enough for a bg (171). Is there an easier way to draw
blood? Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks Erka and Fitz the fuzzy one
Ps. what are normal blood glucose ranges for a ferret
