Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] ADV questions

Hi Jaclyn,
There is still much to learn about AD. Much of the research
on this disease was done in mink. We are now learning that ferrets
do not follow the same rules as the mink do. We really do not know
that exact route(s) of transmission of this virus in ferrets. In
mink it can
be spread thru blood, urine, feces, saliva, and possibly respiratory
droplets.
In ferrets it might be spread thru the blood, urine, feces, saliva
or
respiratory
droplets. The Feb 2001 issue of Compendium has a good review article
on AD.
It covers the signs of this disease, testing for this disease,
treatment and
prevention, etc.
Currently there are 2 research groups working on AD. Dr Rosenthal at

the U of Penn and Drs. Stevenson and Ritchie at the U of Georgia.
Hopefully
we will have better answers to your questions in the near future and
a vaccine
sometime soon.
