Subject: follow-up on Sassy
I had posted previously about my ferret with urine problems and received
much help from many kind members with referrals to vets. I am sorry to have
to tell you all that Sassy has died. I had found a vet on Mar 10 to give
him a Lupron shot which seemed to cure the urinary problem. I subsequently
found a ferret knowledgeable vet nearer to home and had him examined an made
an appointment for expected adrenal surgery and an exploratory. In the 9
days before his surgery he lost more weight and stopped eating even though I
was hand feeding him baby food. When the vet opened him up he found
insulinomas on the pancreas, spleen and liver. We decided at that time to
let him go to sleep. He hadn't presented signs of insulinoma, his blood
glucose had been normal in December. He was put on pred Dec. 27 for IBD but
he just kept losing weight. Only 2 yrs and 4 mos. and he just faded away
over a four month period. In hindsight we should have done an exploratory
back in the beginning when he started losing weight and showing loose stools
for no apparent reason. Hindsight is alway 20/20
