Subject: Update on ferret with osteosarcoma

I just wanted to post a quick update on my little ferret (Bianca) with
osteosarcoma, whom I posted about the week before last.

She underwent her second operation last Monday, to remove a tumour on her
spine. I observed the entire operation, which took over an hour, and was
performed by Dr. xxxx, in Ridgefield Park, NJ.

The tumour was found to be very invasive ... it was growing from her
spine, and involved one kidney (which had to be removed) as well as her
caudal vena cava. Dr. xxx removed as much of it as he could, but there is
still some left which was not removable. He also had to remove a large
section of one nerve, which was wrapped in the tumour.

He gives her about a month or two to live. :-< You wouldn't guess it to
look at her .. she's very happy and bouncy and inquisitive. I had her in
an isolation cage for the past week with her little sister Blair for
company, and she's just running around for the first time today. She
obviously feels good, has a good appetite, and can move normally. It's
hard to believe I'm going to lose her so soon.

Her big brother, Paddington Bear (an NJ Xmas rescue) donated blood to her,
btw. I'm very proud of him. He's doing just fine.
