Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Proglycem question

Hi Glenn,
I do not think there is an insulin level that says "to
use or not to use" Proglycem. I normally start with
Pediapred then add Proglycem when pediapred is not
doing a good job of controlling the glucose level. Proglycem
can also be used when the ferret has both insulinoma
and heart disease. This will allow you to use less pred.
Less pred will mean better control of the heart disease.
Also proglycem has a slight diuretic effect, so it helps control
the heart disease too. The 2 bad things about Proglycem are
it is expensive and most ferrets do not like its taste.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
