Well, worried that my store brand of bleach might not be up to snuff - I just
checked and it is 5.25 percent. Think this is adequate. It is Safeway's
generic.
All of my life have used Clorox, but since I go through so much, my husband
started picking up the store brand for me.

Skip Martin makes all my cages and the bottoms are a heavy plastic. I soak
the cages & bases and litter boxes with liquid detergent and bleach before
scrub and rinse. I use bleach when washing bright colored & patterned
bedding, hammocks and custom bedding for litters. Sometimes I over do it on
the bedding, giving it an interesting white/color batik look. (Sorry Alicia)
I bleach everything. I am very scientific in my measurement of bleach to
water ratio. I grasp the handle of the bleach bottle, unscrew the top and
pour some in. This seems to work well for me. Although I have been known to
over do it a bit and not long ago burned the inside of my nose when washing a
base. Bit too generous on the ratio there.

Sometimes I use Germicidal - Zephrin - which used to be used a lot in
hospitals as a cold wash sterilizer. This is good for washing up poops on
wood floors. When I have very young kits, I make all visitors thoroughly
wash their hands with an antibacterial soap. I gave up on the notion of
boiling visitor's hands for five minutes - they wouldn't let me. Cheers,
Meg
