Subject: Re: Disinfecting
In my shelter, I focus on a couple of things: Cages, Boxes and accidents on
the floor...
Cages are sprayed with Parvo-lan, mixed to instructions and let dry. This is
a virucide and is effective against canine distemper. Litter pans are washed
and then bleached. Bedding is typically washed with bleach. The floors and
any accidents are sprayed with Odo-ban, let soak and then cleaned up. Parvo
lan is not good on porous surfaces, so I don't bother using it on carpet or
unsealed tile, but I do spray on linoleum. Overkill? Well, maybe. But with
the influx of ferrets lately, I am not only concerned about distemper, but
also with ECE, and I think being a little overboard with the disinfecting
helps keep both away and me a little happier....
On a side note, I did find out what one of my local Animal Control offices
considers to be a 'bunch of ferrets'. They had 3 ready for pick up, so there
ya have it - 3 is a bunch! <grin>
