Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Red eye
Hi Stephanie - Red around the eye with goo at the edges sounds like an
infection. But it could also be anything from foreign body in eye to injury
to problem with tear duct. Wouldn't go too long if it continues before a vet
check. In the meantime, you can use neosporin ointment directly to the eye
and surrounding the eye. Neosporin ointment is safe to use and certainly
with "goo" might help. If you apply from a tube that is not new, clean the
tube spout & discard first bit squeezed out. Then apply apply about a quarter
inch directly to the eye - can spread around eye with very clean finger tip.
Before you do this, however, a warm wet compress applied for a few minutes
will help and will clean the area as well.

<< I hope someone can help.... Over the past 2-3 days, I have noticed
reddness around my little guy's right eye. It seems to be getting worse
as there is a little goo around the edges and seems to be a little
swollen. (Can they get pink eye??) It doesn't seem to hurt him, but I
think he is a little less active. Otherwise he is healthy. He is do
for his shots in May, we might be going a little early if this keeps up.
Any clues?
