That is correct. ECE is highly contagious but not all ferrets will get
sick.

Almost all diseases in all animals do not infect all of that species.

We got very lucky when ECE was brought into our home that none showed any
symptoms. Some may have gotten infected but they were lucky enough to not
contract the disease to the point that they showed it.

So far it hasn't been determined what could have prevented problems but we
were at that point feeding either Totally Ferret or Iams if Dr. Willard
hadn't invented it yet. I'm not sure of the timing.
