I have just subscibed to this list and am working my way through the
archives. I hope that I am not to far off replying to this one.

I have also received a ferret who was fed Tender Vittles for his 2
years of life. When he came to me, he was grossly overweight at 4+
pounds. As he did not come with any food, and I admit to being bad
and not running out to buy some of the Vittles, I took the chance of
giving him my mix of TF and ProPlan (I feed a different mix now that
includes TF Senior, Ferret Store brand and 8in1 Ultimate).
Thankfully, he took to it immediately and didn't even have bad poops
from the change.

Reading this post, however, I am worried about his condition. He is
still very heavy 1.5 years later, but at least he's firmed up some.
He has had a chordoma removed from his tail as well as having an odd
swelling/mass behind his right ear that closed the entire ear. A
biopsy determined it was fibrosos due to chronic inflammation(?!).
The swelling has since reduced and is gone.

Should I have blood work done to check his liver and kidney
functions? What else should I be looking for if his system has been
damaged from the bad food?

Thanks in advance for any answers.
