Subject: Re: Raw meat = tartar and gingivitis???

Hi Bob and everybody else who answered my questions

Thank you so much for your help. My lot won't chew chunks of meat, I only
have 2 rescues who were brought up on chunks of meat and ground meat and
when I offered chunks of chicken breast last night, Hobo and Gremlin ate
them sooo quickly, I've never seen anything like it! But my lot... Nope!
So they are on kibble for the time being and then I can feed mince a few
days and kibble a few days even though I'd much prefer to feed an all raw
diet. I will get another chciken and dice the whole thing, bones and
everything and feed that exclusively and see how many of mine will eat it if
they don't get anything else.

But Bob, I'm so interested in what you wrote. If you just gave minced meat,
would that help? Do the minced bones aggrevate the tartar problem? Hobo
and Gremlin were brought up on just meat- no bones, no supplements- and they
are fine. I wouldn't like not feeding bones and not supplementing calcium
and phosphorous but could there be enough calcium and things in meat so that
ferrets can do well without bones? I mean what if some of my ferrets are
fine with chunks of meat but will not touch the chunked bones? And there is
no way my guys are going to eat chunks of liver and heart, I can only add
this to the mince. But I guess if they ate chunks for a few days then I
could do a ground meal with heart and liver and things.

And Marie, you are sooo lucky that your ferrets will eat all the foods you
offer, what a brilliant menu they have! I was happy when mine were switched
from kibble to raw ground meat but right now it seems impossible to get them
to eat chunks of meat. But I'll try...
