How was the diagnosis of heartworms made? If it was just based on
the fluid accumulation and not via something like the IDEXX Snap
test, then I would ask for this type of test to be run. According to
a vet with a lot of experience in the area of heartworms in ferrets,
an ultrasound would not be useful as it can result in both false
positives and false negatives, though it could reveal other heart
problems.
