Subject: Re: autopsy?

For whatever my opinion is worth... With running a rescue
shelter and being a breeder, sadly I have more than a normal
owners share of deaths. Quite bluntly, the shelter would go
broke doing necropsies on every single ferret when that is
money that could do some good for those needing treatment.
Anyhow, I digress, the result is.... I only do necropsies in
three scenarios.
1. If the cause of death was unknown or unclear.
2. If I need to rule out communicable diseases.
3. If the cause of death was so unusual or uncommon that the
vet's might gather some information that may help other
ferrets in the future.

Quite bluntly, it does not sound as if your case meets any of
those criteria.
And as a parent of a 5 year old... and might I add... whose
child's very beloved own ferret passed away just yesterday
with Insulinoma.... I totally agree with Dr. Williams.... I
would not want to put my Katrina through that right now. It
was difficult enough to explain the death to her.

If I may offer further (and un asked for) advice.... to help
my daughter understand and ease the pain, I did a few things
to help her... you may see them posted here at our message
board if you like.
