Subject: Query for vets re Vitamin A

A friend, who's not online, asked me if I could put
out a query about Vitamin A for ferrets.

She has been giving her older ferrets (ranging from
6-8 years)a breakfast made up of :-

Pentavite (sp?) drops for babies, Pet Milk, Small
teaspoon of Brewer's Yeast, Baby Cereal, Egg yolk.

for the past 2 months as one of her ferrets has been
ill.

Just recently she noticed that two of her older
ferrets, 1 male and 1 female, have begun losing their
hair on their rib cages, between the shoulders and
hips.

The male ferret recently had an operation to rid him
of urinary tract crystals and is in great form now -
very lively and energetic.

My friend was wondering if she might be overdosing the
ferrets with too much Vitamin A in her breakfast
mixture and if that might be the cause of the hair
loss, or would it be something more sinister like
adrenal problems?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks
