Subject: any ideas on darkish gooey poop; bleeding from rear end?

Hi,

I just got back from dropping Arthur off at my vet's office. I woke up this
morning to find really dark gooey stains on the ferret room floor. Upon
closer inspection I could see a really dark maroonish/reddish color. By
time I got him to the vet's he was very lethargic, weak, dehydrated, and had
white gums (I didn't even know to look for white gums). I also noticed his
body temp was cool. My vet checked and he was bleeding this thick, for lack
of a better word, "goo" from his rear end. She is going to run tests and
such, get liquids and medicine into him, but can anyone give me an idea of
what this could be so I can start looking it up on-line? I searched the
archives and nothing sounded like what Arthur is going thru. Note: he's
going on 5 years old.

By the way, are the gums white from loss of blood? I didn't think to ask at
the time.

Thank you for any help you can provide.
