Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] anemia perhaps?

I can't tell you what is going on without a vet check, and a CBC at the
minimum. Stools could be checked for blood and depending on these
findings your vet can give you a prognosis.

What has gone wrong with my 3 year old jill? Could use some input on this

one. OK, the little one went into her heat cycle 3 weeks ago,on (4-9-01)
was
bred right away, she was with the male for only one day, for right around
1
to 1 1/2 hours. It is my theory not to allow the girls to stay in heat
for
long before mateing. After her mateing her swelling went down as usual.
(She
has had a sucessful mating and litter of kits in 1999 and 2001 and only 1

litter a year, and this was going to be her last year to be a momma) 1
week
ago she started looking pale. (chalkie looking nose and gums) pads of
feet
white. Her temp. was normal. Poop not normal for over 1 week ...black tar

looking and thick...even before she had pet tinc given to her....She was
grumpy to her 3 cage mates (3 nice jills her same age) She has given my
husband and I 2 hard bites. (as to say "I feel terrible people" ) Of
course
now she is seperated from her old cage mates, eating very little and
going
down hill everyday. Wants to be held and loved. I hand feed her and have
given the pet tinc that is loaded with iron...but only a very tiny bit at
a
time...I don't think this is the answer.
It is my belief that this last mateing has cost her..her life. Perhaps
her
only way to make it is a blood trans. Which we won't go that
route.....anyone else out there seen this before?
