Subject: Epogen
I give Champ .06ml (3000IU/ml) Epogen injections
three times a week for anemia (renal failure).
He's been on the shots for 2 weeks now. I haven't
seen any side effects. He is definitely pinking
back up. I think cutting his nails will be easier
this time.
As for the loss of appetite, assuming it's not
from the nausea, try a B-12 injection. It has
worked wonders for Champ. He had an injection
about 4 weeks ago (refused to eat more than 4-5
licks of soup off my finger) and is still eating
well. He will not eat on his own and only eats
soup, but at least he is eating. I use the time
for injections and sub-q fluids.
Speaking of Epogen, my vet actually diluted it to
300IU/ml, thus increasing his dosage to .6ml.
Someone questioned the wisdom/purpose of this.
Does anyone know whether there's a problem
diluting it? I haven't asked why he diluted it.
I just figured he thought the dosage would be
easier to measure. Or, maybe he likes us to think
we're getting a little more for our money as the
drug is very, very expensive <g>.
