Hi Deena,
Whether you give the vaccine SQ in the scruff area
of the neck or give the vaccine IM or SQ in the rear leg
will not likely make a difference as far as an allergic reaction
to the vaccine is concern. However IM vaccines will likely cause
some local pain in the rear leg. Usually if you distract the
ferret with a treat (nutrical, laxatone, ferretone, etc) they will
not mind a vaccine given SQ over the shoulder blades or over
the dorsal back. If they have had a previous allergic reaction
to a vaccine in the past then give Benadryl before vaccinating.
