Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Need Help! Ferret had accident
this morning!

He doesn't want to move around
that much. He moves and then lays down. Is he in shock? Did I
cause some
damage? Should I take him to the vet? What could I have
possibly done? I am
feeling soooo horrible right now. Thanks for your help!

Sorry to hear about your ferret. I would bring him to a vet
today, just to be sure. I think the cost would be worth it
for a peace of mind.

Maybe his airway was compromised while being stuck- pressure
on the trachea, or even carotids but this is not from your
pulling. In humans there are nerves that can get injured from
stretching the neck that way while pulling, like in a large
baby being delivered with a resulting Erb's palsy. Plus the
cervical spine could get injured, but I am not sure about
ferrets- since they are made more to fit in small spots, and
are much more flexible.

Good luck,

Patty
p.s. Don't feel too bad, I had a cat that my husband thought a
dog teething ring would look cute on as a necklace, well the
cat panicked, tried to get it off and got it stuck half in its
mouth with it's jaw stuck open. Believe me I thought the vet
might call the ASPCA on me for animal cruelty, I told them my
nephew did it, figure sounds more like what a 5 yr old might
do, verses a 28 year old!!!
