I withhold food 4 hours prior to surgery. Actually, it ends up being
a little longer because surgery is typiclly performed an hour or so
after I drop them off. I will hunt for the one going in (they have
their own room), syringe-feed him/her ~24 ml duck soup (a little more
or less, depending on size), and then ensure he/she does not eat more
on their own. I do not withhold water until we get to the clinic.

The number one thing to do prior to surgery is to give that little
girl as much lovin' as you can. While doing that, take out some time
to get her recovery cage ready--single level and a litter pan with a
low side (about 1 inch). I modify a pan by cutting down one side.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the surgery!
