Subject: Re: Are we over vaccinating our ferrets?

Hi,

All the responses I've seen to this questions so far have dealt with rabies
vaccines. Due to the fact that a bite can, in some cases, be a death
sentence or quarantine, I can see giving an annual rabies vaccine.

But what about the distemper vaccine? I've heard (and it's been to long to
site the source) that it may not be an annual necessity in dogs. Given the
number of allergic reactions to Fervac, is there a veterinary opinion about
annual vaccinations against distemper? Can it safely be given every 2 or 3
or 4 years instead of every single year? Would this adequately protect our
ferrets? I'd like to know because one of mine has allergic reactions to
Fervac and if she can avoid the booster - even some years - it would be
wonderful!

Thank you,

Kim
