Try a soft diet for a few days and see if that doesn't help. He may be
straining for some reason. A home remedy at the site is to put some
granulated (white) sugar on the area. You could also try a little
Preparation H--the new cloth wipes might be safer since he may lick. But I
would do that in conjection with a softer diet for the time being and see
if it helps.
