Subject: Query about strokes

I was wondering if anyone had any information about
strokes in ferrets.

On Saturday I noticed my little sable (she'd be around
9 years old) walking a little strangely then suddenly
she just fell onto her left side. She got up right
away, shook herself and then seemed confused, not
knowing where to find the chest of drawers where she
usually sleeps. She wandered around like she was
dazed and then she fell over again, but got up
quickly. She didn't seemed too troubled by the event.

I put her into the drawer and she settled down
happily. I kept my eye on her but it didn't happen
again over the weekend, thank goodness. She's walking
normally, eating and drinking and there is no sign of
confusion.

I took her to our vet who confirmed my suspicions, but
she said our ferret's heart sounded good and there was
no weakness in her hind legs.

She was prescribed one 50mg tablet of Vivitonin which
was crushed in 20mls of Nutrigel and I was told to
give her 1/2ml twice a day until finished.

Is there any other form of medication that can be
given to a ferret with strokes? My vet didn't know.

Thanks for your help.
