Subject: Vets?

Hi -
Thought I'd ask again if anyone had any recommendations for vets in the
Portsmouth NH area.

Several people wrote me privately to recommend Dr Mike Dutton, but he is
a couple of hours away, in Weare. Seems to me that a two hour ride with
a sick kid in an emergency is awful long. And for routine care, I'm not
sure that half a day in the car constitutes quality time. I'm open to
argument on this, but I'd like to find someone closer if possible.
*/[]4‘‘‘‘09 (oops, that was Sam expressing his opinion. Unfortunately he
writes in furoese. Any translators out there?).

If no one can recommend a nearby vet, I'll try another approach. Is
there any way of finding out if any of the vets registered for the AFA
Veterinary Symposium are from this area? That might be a reasonable
indication that they are ferret-savvy (or want to be).

And -- supposing I get no recommendations -- what questions should I ask
to figure out if a vet knows ferrets? "Do you treat ferrets" is a start,
but a 'yes' could mean 'I'm willing to try'. Should I ask something like
'what are the symptoms of insulinoma?' Should I just refer to my guys as
'gibs' and see if they know what I'm talking about? (And is that a hard
'g' as in 'guy' or a soft 'g' as in 'geriatric'? I've only ever seen it
in print.)

Thanks.
