Subject: Need some support and figures

Hi All,

Well, Icabod went to the vet today to get prepped for
Insulinoma surgery tomorrow. I'm so worried. This is the first
fuzzy that I have taken for major surgery. I currently have
five fuzzies in all. This will also be his very first night
all alone as he has always had his girlfriend, Emeline, as
company. I sit here in tears thinking about him all alone at
the vet.

He and his girlfriend Emeline were rescues I took that the
owners had abandoned in a crate (it was their cage for three
years) when they moved away. The neighbors called me to see if
I would take them since they knew I had ferrets. So this
little guy has already had a very tough life.

My question is for the vets out there. I really love my vet
and she is very knowledgeable, but she wasn't there today when
I dropped him off so I didn't get to ask. What are the
statistics of ferrets making it through this surgery in
general? What would make him a higher risk for not making it?
How long after the surgery would it take to say that he is
"out of the woods" for anything going wrong from the surgery?

Maybe I just need to hear from more people about having had
their fuzzies go through this and be OK. I'm just really
worried and scared. I've really become attached to him in
particular because he is the most loving of all my ferts. Our
other male is very attached to my Boyfriend, so yes we do have
our favorites, but they all get lots of love and attention.

Anyway, I'm sending good thoughts to all the sick fuzzies out
there and hope you all have a wonderful night full of happy
dooks.
