Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Insulinoma surgery/BG 70

Amy,

That was me. From what I understand anything under 90 is to be
suspicious. My guy also showed many of the classic signs like
hind leg weakness, sleepy all the time, flattening. The first
test showed 70 and then we redid him on fasting blood draw and
it was 65. I would definitely have him retested with a fasting
glucose count and not wait that long. As soon as they did the
second test they scheduled him for surgery.

Actually I just got a call from the hospital. He is still in
surgery and they did find the right adrenal mass along with
the insulinoma. They were having some problems removing the
nodules due to the size of them, but they called because they
wanted my consent for the adrenal removal. I'm not totally
sure what to think at this point as I am a nervous wreck right
now. I will update you all when I find out.

Good luck to you and your fuzzies,
Stephanie

Hi folks. Someone posted about their ferret having
Insulinoma surgery. There ferret had a blood glucose level
of 70. I'm curious about this, my Rascal also has a BG of
70 and the vet wants to do a retest in 3 months but didn't
get overly concerned at this point. Was this ferret
retested?

Amy
