Subject: 2nd opinion please

My 1 yr old MF male albino Spike is scheduled for exploratory
surgury tomorrow. My vet is basically looking to check things
out and do biopsies on his colon & intestines do to repeated
episodes of vomiting and bloody/mucous stool over the past
year (looking for signs of enteritis, colitis, etc?). The vet
is off today & I called to double check when to take Spike's
food and water away tonight. The technician asked another vet
(not a ferret vet) and they said no food after 10 p.m. but it
is ok to leave the water. I've checked the archives & saw
some vets say a few hours before surgury is enough time to
take away food. I am supposed to drop Spike off @ 7 a.m. but
he might not go into surgury until 10 a.m. according to the
technician. This sounds like too much time without food to
me, especially since his last episode with the voniting/bloody
stool was less than a week ago and he is always picky about
eating for a while afterwords. Is 12 hours too long or is it
necessary for the biopsies we are looking to do?

Thanks!!

Dawn
