Several years ago our old Tessa had similar symptoms. The vet
checked for an
abrasion by staining the cornea, then tested her tears for a
bacterial
infection. Topical ointments and oral antibiotics didn't help.
Finally we
found the problem......a horrible earmite infestation! After
treatment with
Ivermectin she was good as new. I guess the pain in her ear was
causing her
to "wince" and hold that eye shut. She's now a feisty little nine
year old
and hasn't had a recurrance of the problem.
