Subject: [Ferret-Health-list]RE: Anaphylactic VACCINE REACTION

You are describing a serious anaphylactic vaccine reaction.
The intestines are a "shock organ" so that is why there was
mucoid diarrhea followed by bloody diarrhea. These cases go into
shock that is why the body temp dropped so low, and she had
breathing
problems. You treated her correctly with IV fluids, dexamethasone,
and oxygen. One other thing to use for future reference is
epinephrine.
This will help with the shock syndrome. After she is stabilized it
is a good
thing to use pediapred for a few days and a broad spectrum
antibiotic such
as clavamox drops, amoxi drops, or baytril.
As for future vaccinations-that is a tough decision for you and your
vet
to make. I would suggest giving both benadryl and dexamethasone
prior to any future vaccines.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
