Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] RE: Chronic Bladder Infection

Hi Terry,
A bladder infection that has been a problem
for 2 years is indeed unusual. It is time to do
an urinalysis and a culture and sensitivity test.
If the urine ph is too high then it is time to use
an urinary acidifier or change to a better food.
If there is a bacteria cultured then it is time to
start Teddy Bear on the right antibiotic and keep
him on it for a long time; because this may be
a prostate infection instead of a simple bladder
infection. Are there any adrenal gland disease
signs present? This would make a prostate infection
more likely.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
