Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] RE: Connie

Hi Connie,
Sorry to hear about your ferret. Prostate problems
are not common in dogs and cats. Prostates becoming
big even to cause a urinary blockage are rare in dogs
and cats. Unfortunately we do see prostate problems in
male ferrets with adrenal gland disease. It can become
fatal if the adrenal gland disease and the enlarged prostate
are not treated. Hopefully when the new edition of the book
Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents comes out, it will have more
on treatment options for adrenal gland disease and for prostate
problems, so more vets will be aware of this serious problem.
Again sorry about your loss.
