From what I understand, fans do not work for ferrets as they don't
            sweat.
However, a fan can be good if you put a block of ice in front of it
            in front
of your cage. I, personally, used litre soda bottles filled 3/4ths
            full and
then frozen. I then wrapped them in a dish towel and laid them right
            in their
cages where they could get up next to them. I say I used because I
            was
fortunate enough to have central air put in last summer.
Small window air conditioners can be bought at rummage/garage sales
            pretty
            cheaply too.
I've been told that using a fan with a block of ice in front of it
            and
blowing directly into the cage works. I'm not sure why the fan would
            work
with the ice but my vet, who is very ferret knowledgeable, swears by
            it.
            Just another thought...
