Subject: brewers yeast for non insulinomic ferrets

The study that Dr Murray referred to a while ago showed that chromium (the
relevant chemical found in brewers yeast) and the similar vanadium lower
blood sugar even in animals with NORMAL blood sugar. If you've ever
suffered from low blood sugar, you know this is not good--you feel lousy,
irritable, light-headed. In a ferret, they can suffer symptoms whether the
low blood sugar is caused by insulinoma or chromium. I don't believe there
is any evidence that chromium can cause insulinoma, thus in normal ferrets,
its effects are transitory.

If you've only been using a pinch of brewers yeast in a batch of duck soup,
it is unlikely there was enough chromium to have much effect. But best to
stop it altogether anyway.
