Don't ever beat yourself up about losing a ferret... you did the
best you
could.
I found my vet after doing much research. I had a dying ferret and
desperately wanted to save her. I used the Internet, called vets
whose names
were listed on various ferret websites, even consulted with Dr.
Williams.
Two vets offered phone consultations for a fee but of course
recommended a
visit as well. I even wrote e-mails to different shelters asking
for advice.
I guess there's no way to know for sure if a vet is good. I just
went by
what his colleagues said. I figured they were the experts and if
they were
all recommending the same person, I couldn't do any better.
I guess your best bet will be word of mouth and lots of digging.
