Subject: RE: [Ferret-Health-list] Questions About Ferret Cancer

Beverly,

I am guessing I am probably late in answering the questions you had
about Snowball. I have a rescue that has ALL, except the dry heave
symptoms. I took her to the vet Tuesday. My suspicion right off especially
with the hind end weakness and lethargy was Insulonoma. The vet did her
blood sugar and it was 21. I was shocked she was alive. He gave her
ferratone and put her on dexamethosone. He said he could go in and do
surgery but if there is tumors on the pancrease that the percentage of
regrowth is incredibly high with in months of the original surgery and
surgery usually gets about 17 months out of their lives and that the
medication actually gave them about 18 months, but basically he gave her
12-18 months to live and medication 2 times a day for the remainder of her
life. But she has been on the medication for 3 days now and is MUCH more
active and eating well and looking much better, I am very pleased. Have you
guys checked Snowballs blood sugar levels ? If not, please check it.
