He could have adrenal disease. If you check into past posts on the
connection between adrenal disease, urinary tract disease and
prostate disease by searching under prostate at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list you will learn
details in case this is what you are encountering. Usually, the fur
loss extend beyond the tail but there are exceptions, certainly. A
urinary blockage is very bad thing. Fortunately, in that case
corrective adrenal surgery tends to also take care of the rest.
