Subject: Distemper Vaccinations
I have a question about distemper vaccinations.
This is the recommended vaccination schedule for kits in Sweden
(Fervac-D is the only vaccine used, 1 ml SQ):
first dose at 12-16 weeks (8-12 if the mother isn't vaccinated)
second dose 4-6 weeks later
third dose at 12 months
booster every second year
The AFA recommended vaccination schedule (also the vaccine
manufacturer's recommendations):
first dose at 8 weeks
second at 11 weeks
third at 14 weeks
booster annually
Obviously we vaccinate less in Sweden. Does this mean our ferrets are
not fully protected? I don't know how or why the veterinarians over
here have decided on this vaccination protocol, but apparently it is
believed to be sufficient.
