Subject: Bandit's Post Adrenalectomy Problems

I am not a vet - but having been thru the bilateral adrenalectomy thing
multiple times, I can't help but wonder whether there is enough adrenal
tissue left to do the job. The lack of energy in particular - my vet
usually recommends that when both adrenals are removed, ferrets get 1/4
tablet of 0.1 mg Florinef each AM and 1/4 tablet of 5 mg Pred (one gets
it every day, the other, every other day), and they are normal and
active. Dooker gets an "Addensonian crisis" when unduly stressed (like a
trip to the vet, especially for a SHOT), so he gets an extra 1/4 tablet
of Pred, or a shot of pred at those times. Also, my vet has a small
handheld analyzer made by ABBOTT labs, called an I-STAT, very accurate,
which allows her to check his glucose and electrolytes in 1-2 minutes,
using a drop or two of blood, not 3 mLs. I would start there - what do
the FHL vets think ??? Joanne
