Subject: Ferret with a swollen head: poisoning?

A vet we've known for a while and knows of our net access asked us
about this...

A women found her ferret under a bed next to an ant trap.

The ferrets face is swollen and exhibits signs of pain when trying to
open its mouth. The face shows bruising.

Vital signs stable.

No vomitting.

No fever.

Any one got a clue? The vet expected vomitting if it had ingested
the poison.

My personal wondering is was it possibly inhaled.

The woman mentioned the possibility of snakes having gotten into her
house. But no signs of a bite are present.
