Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Melatonin for adrenal disease
question

Hi Ulrike,
I do not know if there has been any study to
compare regular release versus time release
pills. Most of the early work in ferrets was done
with time release melatonin injections. The mink
industry also uses a slow release melatonin implant.
In a study (in dogs) at the U of Tenn melatonin levels
remained elevated for 8+ hours after a regular release
melatonin capsule (JAVMA Oct 15,1999). My best
guess is the time release tablet may work better.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
