Subject: Re:: ADV quick check test

In using the new quik test ADV kits from Avecon what initially
threw me off - is that the instructions do not state swab for one
full minute ( or as close as you can ot it) . Knowing so however,
from the earlier mail in tests-- we did so.

I feel comfortable that if you follow the test instructions and swab
for a full minute your results will be accurate. I am not a vet--
just a seasoned shelter person who is thankful for the resource of
checking before exposure to ADV before exposing ADV+ ferrets to a
building full of ADV negative ferrets!

The time is *IMPORTANT*!

When we tested my kids and the known ADV+ foster kids, we
followed
instructions in a post that said to swab for about 20 seconds.
One
foster came back negative and the other came back as weak positive

(meaning she had been exposed at some point to an ADV+ ferret).
Since we knew their true status from the CEP blood test, we
consulted
with Dr. Stephon. We retested swabbing the mouth for one full
minute. The two kids came back correct as ADV+.
