Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] ADV - Testing and other things
Hi All, 2 weeks ago I was at a lecture by the head micro
biologist for HARLAN UK LTD the UK testing Lab. 2 of the
things he mentioned were that he thought that the ELISA test
was the best thing since sliced bread and was the way to go
for a small no. of tests. The bit I did not like was he
thought that there was no such thing as a false positive and
he has been testing ferrets since the early 80s. He said that
after he had infected ferrets with ADV-F they often only
tested positive once then tested neg, for each of the
subsequent monthly test for 6 or more before again testing
positive. The point he was making is that if you get one
positive test on a ferret he said that in his opinion it
should always be considered a Positive no matter how many
times it tests neg.
PS, sorry I arrived late and missed his full name.
