Hi Lynda

I feed raw chicken mince, finely ground, I'm trying to get mine on coarsely
ground chicken though. I've had *no* problems at all feeding raw meat, I
get it from the supermarket so it's human grade. Cooking destroys enzymes
needed for digestion and I think it also destroys taurine. So feeding raw
is best in my opinion, it's also biologically appropriate. And brilliant if
your ferret likes it and does well on it.

The raw meat diet has also helped my ill ferrets, the ones with insulinoma
are a lot better, Jilly is in the late stages and is going downhill slowly
but Jack is doing just fine. Jilly used to get ground kibble with water and
Hills A/D but always suffered from nausea and it was hard to feed her. But
since she's been on the raw meat, she's been fine, no nausea and she's been
eating really well as a result.

And raw meat is excellent for putting weight on thin and sick ferrets. It
is a very good food and I believe it's a lot better than kibble. It's also
very unlikely that ferrets have problems with salmonella and e coli or other
bugs since their digestive tract is too short for bugs to multiply and cause
sickness. My lot haven't had problems yet anyway and I don't think they
ever will, as long as the meat is fresh and not going off. But I do believe
that feeding kibble causes long term health problems.

If you haven't already done so, I'd say subscribe to the raw ferrets list,
there are also loads of lists for people who feed cats and dogs raw and you
can learn a lot from it even if there are not many people on it who feed
ferrets raw.

Best wishes
