The whole chicken was cooked for 8 hours in a slow cooker. It was
mixed with 1/2 stick of lard, 4 eggshells, and about 3 cups ground
kibble. The egg, kibble, and lard was added after the chicken was
cooked and blended. This entire mixture was placed into a large sauce
pot and brought again to a boil. I did not use the whites or yolks of
the eggs - only the shells. It was then separated into disposable
sandwhich containers and frozen immediately. The batch that I used to
feed my crew that Thursday night was defrosted on Tues (in the fridge)
and served, Wed and Thurs to all ten of my ferrets.
If eggshells are not digestable, why are they reccommended to use for
chicken gravy? i thought ferrets were able to get calcium or
something of use from them?
I have not heard results from the labs and will post any findings (or
lack of findings) when they are received.
Again, thank you extremely for your advice and help with this. I have
printed out your responses and will fax them to my vet in the morning
for her review in solving this mystery.
