Subject: Re: baby ferret with broken leg

If I read you right that sounds like an break at the epiphysis.
Bones grow near the ends usually and those growth plates are more
easily broken till growth has been completed. In humans one concern
about a break in that location before growth is complete is that the
affected limb may turn out to be shorter than its mate. Since
ferrets do well with three legs, though, I expect this would not be a
major handicap for the little girl. She sounds marvelous! (We do
love having a daredevil around usually; they tend to also be very
intelligent we've noticed. I expect she will give you many years of
interesting stories.)
