Actually, the post I believe you refer to didn't prescribe a
medication, the medication had already been prescribed by there was a
question as to the dosage. Alot of people have difficulty in the USA
of figuring out mg per kg dosages because we don't think metric. In
general Americans think in pounds and ounces and the mistake that was
being made is a common one, as I think Dr Ruth even pointed out.
So, Katherine wasn't prescribing a medication, she was helping
someone with their math, on a medication which had already been
prescribed, which doesn't require a license.
I would caution everyone though, you have to take responsibility for
considering the source and the information for anything you get over
the internet. Since we all know Katherine and her level of experience
with rehabs, we are more likely to give weight to her posts, but
anything the least bit questionable should always be run by the vet
who knows your ferret no matter who posted it.
As for Katherine, twice now I've gone back to the archive to pull up
her post on oral benadryl dosages. She's an awesome resource and very
conscienctious about the type of advice she gives and asking our PhDs
for confirmation. Quite an asset to the list.
